Elfin Forest Pocket Guide
The new, fully revised edition of "Plants and Animals of the Elfin Forest Natural Area - A Pocket Guide" is now available! A number of new species have been added, including whole new sections for gastropods and lichens. Also useful information about most species has been included. The Pocket Guide is no longer just a species list.
As is often the case with technical documents errors do creep in and new information comes to light. Below is the current "errata" and "addendum" (as of 9/22/06):
Errata
Page 1:
It's "i before e" except in David Keil's last name
Becky McFarland's last name does not have a "k" in it.
Dr. Tom Richards provided the information on gastropods.
Phil Ashley provided information on various types of wildlife.
Page 2:
Insects start on page 16 not 15.
Addendum
Page 30:
Depending on if you're a lumper or a splitter the coastal variety of Eschscholzia californica (California poppy) found in the Forest is either a "race" or the subspecies maritima.
May also to be added to Addendum:
Various pages:
Scutellaria tuberosa (Common skullcap) [mis-IDed as S. californica in Pocketguide?]
Apiastrum angustifolium (Wild celery) [ID under review]
Ribes menziesii (Canyon gooseberry)
Myporoum laetum (Myporoum or Lollypop tree) invasive; with luck it will come off list soon
Pinus radiata (Monterey pine) single known specimen may not survive
